I completed this painting in January but havn't put it on the blog until now. Sarah really likes it and wants to take it home. It's kind of big, but on canvas so we could roll it up and bring it with us. we'll see, we can make that decision when its time to go.

I met a great group of people about a  month ago. "Occhio del Riciclone" an emvironnmentaly minded group of entrepreneurs who are doing some great things in the world of reuseing stuff. They saw my table sculpture on the blog some time ago and invited me to participate in this show. I had a great time, met some awesome folk, and the table had another showing. Thanks "Occhio del Ricilclone"

Mostra al' Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma

Last month we had a little show in the painting room to display the work we have been doing this year. I showed this painting together with the red/ yellow  tree. The turn out was great and it was really nice to have an opportunity to show some work. Thanks to professor Pirracini we had this opportunity, which not all students at the academy had.

my table sculpture at parco della musica

May 20 - 22 I had the priviledge to show my table sculpture at the beautiful auditorium of Rome. It was an amazing event all about gardening, plants and the environment. Which is perfect for this sculpture. My ideas influencing this work are based on our connection with one another and our surroundings. The table has lost its center of gravity and is now out of equilibrium. The Plant restores the balance and illustrates dependency. The old and the new together refer to the past and the present, our ancestors are dependent on us and we depend on them. Of course this is what it means to me anyone can have their own interpretation.
I love the green orange on the tree, its perfect!

"vento tra le foglie" side 2

"vento tra le foglie" side 1

These are painting on a shopping bag for a show at he end of this month. The  object is to create a work of art on a shopping bag, reusing the bag and turning it into art. The brand must be visible and the theme for this year is the colors of the italian flag. Hence the green red and white.

Last day with Vatican "special permit"

cane e cucciolo

This is one of the two halls where we worked. You can see one of by fellow students in the back right corner.

The sculptor inlayed marble spots. Incredible!

I love this black marble wart hog.

The marble of this lion is fantastic. I wish I had another few months to draw every sculpture.
This is the final day of my permeso speciale that alows me into the Vatican Museums to study in the hall of animals. It is kind of sad having to give up this privalige, it makes me feel so special. Especialy because I don't have to pay to get in. Its like having a hall pass in grade school. You walk extra slowly down the hall, and you hope a teacher stops you just so you can show your hall pass. Permission to be where you are not normally suposed to be is a beautiful thing.

Through this body of work I am seeking to find the space between objects. We live in a world occupied by objects we see, and filled by the air we don’t see. These paintings are an investigation of three dimensional space realized on a two dimensional surface, through the use of color, form, and artistic perspective. The subject of the tree is particularly important because as humans we depend on trees and plants for the oxygen they provide to fill this “space” with breathable air.

new tree painting

Rome is a living museum, not only because of its history, architecture and art but for the plants people have growing in their gardens. There are plants from all over the world. I walk the streets and I am amazed by the beautiful and strange trees I see.

For my anatomy class we have special permission to draw the statues in the animals gallery of the Vatican Museum. I have been going there about once a week since February. We are studying animal anatomy in the context of Orwells "Animal Farm". Its an interesting study of human characteristics imposed on animals. The gallery at the vatican is great it has both wild and domestic animals, carved from some awesome pieces of stone. The pictures don't do justice.

L'angolo mio del accademia

This is my little corner of the academy. I have been developing my painting process, with egg tempera. It is a combination of techniques I have picked up over the last few years. These are two paintings I have done exploring the process. Its not exactly what I am looking for but they are getting close. I'm working on a large one which is working out even better.
